Children in Mumbai can experience a charming tale this week as Gillo Repertory Theatre presents 'Fletcher Aur Zenobia' at the Prithvi Summertime festival. This new play is a Hindi adaptation of a classic book by American author Edward Gorey, brought to life by Shaili Sathyu.
The 60-minute production is suitable for children aged five and above. It follows Fletcher, a cat who finds himself stranded in a tree. His adventure takes a whimsical turn when he discovers an old trunk containing hats, and within them, Zenobia, a worldly talking doll.
To overcome their predicament, Fletcher and Zenobia decide to throw a party and brainstorm ways to escape. The play explores themes of metamorphosis, friendship, wish fulfillment, and freedom. Gillo Repertory Theatre, a leading company in Theatre for Young Audiences in India, aims to create engaging performing arts experiences for young people.
Founded in Mumbai in 2009, Gillo has produced 45 plays in various languages and staged over 800 shows for approximately 170,000 children nationwide. Their past productions include well-known titles like 'Chidiya, Udd!' and 'Hanuman Ki Ramayan.'
