Comedian's Near-Death Health Scare Inspires New Show

In August 2023, comedian Cat Cohen faced a frightening medical emergency, experiencing sudden paralysis in her left arm. This event led to an emergency room visit where she learned she had a congenital heart condition, specifically an opening between her heart's upper chambers that had likely caused a stroke-like episode due to a blood clot.

Cohen, known for her physical and song-infused comedy specials, has channeled this life-threatening experience into her new Off-Broadway show, "Broad Strokes." Directed by Alex Timbers, the production marks her debut at the Lucille Lortel Theater and presents a cohesive narrative about her recent health crisis.
