Carrie Remake: New Stars, Classic Horror.

The 2026 Carrie series, set to debut soon, promises a faithful adaptation of Stephen King's chilling novel, aiming to capture nuances absent in the 1976 film. Newcomer Lily Brooks O'Bryant stars as the titular Carrie White, a role famously originated by Sissy Spacek in the 1976 film. Spacek, who earned an Academy Award nomination for her performance, has publicly supported O'Bryant's portrayal, noting the universal struggle of adolescence that makes Carrie a timeless character.

Matthew Lillard, who plays high school principal Henry Grayle, emphasized that this series is a more direct adaptation of King's book than the original movie. He praised the young cast's brilliance and honesty. Deana Midthunder takes on the role of gym teacher Rita Desjardin, a character with a compassionate arc. In the 1976 film, this role was played by Betty Buckley, whose character had a different fate.

Other key cast members include Sarah Sloyan as Margaret White, Carrie's devoted but misguided mother, a departure from previous portrayals focusing on her misguided love rather than pure tyranny. Piper Laurie famously originated the role and received an Oscar nomination. Siena Agudong plays Sue Snell, a bully who seeks amends, and Joel Oulette portrays Tommy Ross, who asks Carrie to prom, a pivotal event.

Alison Thornton embodies Chris Hargensen, a popular student who amplifies Carrie's humiliation, while Arthur Conti plays Billy Nolan, Chris's accomplice in the infamous prom night prank. John Travolta originated Billy in the 1976 film, bringing a memorable mix of humor and unpredictability to the character. The new series seeks to explore these characters' motivations with greater depth, offering a comprehensive look at the events leading to the prom night tragedy.
