7 Jul
Summary
- John Oliver's mysterious character Z was slapped by Carly Spencer.
- Z's arc concluded with a dramatic reveal after his confrontation.
- Oliver previously expressed a desire for a soap opera role.
John Oliver's highly anticipated three-episode arc on General Hospital ended with a physical confrontation. His character, known only as Z, arrived in Port Charles on July 2, quickly becoming embroiled in the shadowy World Securities Bureau (WSB). Z's actions, including shooting an injured gunman and his dismissive attitude towards agent Josslyn Jacks, led him into direct conflict with Josslyn's mother, Carly Spencer.
The July 6 episode featured a heated exchange between Carly and Z, focusing on Josslyn's recruitment into the WSB. Z's refusal to return Josslyn to Carly, referring to her by her last name and WSB agent status, provoked Carly to slap him. This marked the culmination of Oliver's guest appearance, fulfilling his public request to be slapped on a soap opera.
Oliver's appearance was a response to his own on-air plea for a role on any soap. General Hospital executive producer Frank Valentini confirmed Oliver's desire for this specific scene. The actress playing Carly, Laura Wright, praised Oliver's professionalism and respect for the daytime drama's craft. Oliver is scheduled for another soap cameo on Days of Our Lives in August.
