The 33-year-old dancer, originally from Taiyuan, China, views his 2022 relocation to London to join the BBC program as a significant life event, describing it as a "rebirth" that facilitated his open embrace of his sexuality.

Gu's journey in dance began at age 11 in China, a path influenced by his mother. He later moved at 12 to study dance professionally in Beijing, an experience he characterized as intense.
