Summary
- Kranium announced as Caribbean R&B artist of the year, but Dexta Daps later named winner
- Kranium claims Caribbean Music Awards team asked him to return award in exchange for a new category
- Caribbean Music Awards admits "outdated documentation" led to the mistake

In the aftermath of the 2025 Caribbean Music Awards, the region's biggest stars found themselves embroiled in a controversy over the announcement of the Caribbean R&B artist of the year.
At the in-person ceremony held on August 28th, Kranium was announced as the victor and took the stage to accept his award. However, when the ceremony aired on BET on September 12th, Dexta Daps was named the winner instead. This prompted a fiery response from Kranium, who took to Instagram to accuse the Caribbean Music Awards team of foul play.
According to Kranium's manager, Pierre Bost, the organizers put Kranium on a three-way call with Dexta Daps to explain the mishap and allegedly asked the "Nobody Has to Know" singer to return the award in exchange for a new Caribbean R&B song of the year honor, which does not currently exist at the awards show. Kranium refused this "stupid and disrespectful option" and the Caribbean Music Awards team subsequently removed him from the BET TV broadcast, giving the award to Dexta Daps.

In a statement released on September 16th, the Caribbean Music Awards confirmed that Dexta Daps was the clear winner, receiving 40.8% of the vote. They acknowledged that "outdated documentation was mistakenly used in creating the winner cards" and expressed regret over the situation, vowing to implement new safeguards to prevent future issues.
Despite this now-resolved spat, the past month in Caribbean music has been dominated by a plethora of social media trends, from the Bahamas-led "Bang!!!" dance to the viral remixes of Zuchu's "Amada."
