This alert was implemented due to the depiction of a character using a plastic gun. Viewers are also forewarned about 'violence' and 'explosions,' which are primarily composed of firework recordings, leading some to describe the action as an 'over the top' crackdown. The show, originally aired in 1967, utilized marionette puppets and followed Captain Scarlet's battles against Martian invaders. This recent development follows similar instances where other classic children's programs have received 'woke' warnings. For example, the BBC's 'Brum,' a show about a sentient car, was flagged for potentially 'outdated language and attitudes' from its original 1990s and early 2000s airing. The BBC had previously stated the 'Brum' warning was added in error and subsequently removed. Another BBC sitcom, 'Some Mothers Do Ave Em,' also faced a trigger warning for 'discriminatory language,' further fueling discussions about how contemporary sensitivities are being applied to vintage media.
