Director Lukas Dhont is set to premiere his latest film, "Coward," at the Cannes Film Festival. This marks his third appearance at the prestigious event, following the success of "Girl" in 2018 and "Close" in 2022.
"Coward" is Dhont's most ambitious project to date, described as a film about love and death, creation and destruction, and survival. It is his first period piece, set during World War I.
The drama centers on Pierre, a young Belgian soldier, as he confronts cowardice and heroism amidst the conflict. He encounters Francis, tasked with finding ways to maintain morale behind the front lines.
The film reunites Dhont with his longtime co-writer Angelo Tijssens. It is produced by Michiel Dhont under the Reunion banner, with Lumen, Topkapi Films & Versus (Opus) also involved in the co-production.
International partners include Cine+ OCS, France 2 Cinéma, VTM, RTBF, Proximus, BeTV, and Orange. Lumière will distribute the film in the Benelux, and Diaphana Distribution will handle French distribution.
