Cannes Film Festival Honors Groundbreaking Movies and Filmmakers

In the past year, the film industry has celebrated several remarkable achievements. At the Cannes Film Festival, Oliver Laxe's Sirāt earned the prestigious Krzysztof Kieslowski Award for best feature. The jury praised the film for its "terrifying and compassionate world" and "brilliant performances, sound design and cinematography."

On the documentary front, the Maysles Brothers Award went to the film Cover-Up, directed by Laura Poitras and Mark Obenhaus. The jury commended the film for its "radically honest portrayal" of renowned investigative journalist Seymour Hersh and the "personal cost of speaking truth to power."

Across the country, the Denver Film Festival also honored a diverse array of filmmakers and their bold, authentic storytelling. The festival's artistic director, Matthew Campbell, celebrated the "extraordinary lineup of films, visionary storytellers, and unforgettable experiences" that defined this year's event.
