Rakan Mayasi's debut feature film, "Yesterday the Eye Didn't Sleep," will have its world premiere at the Cannes Film Festival in the Un Certain Regard selection. The movie is set in a Bedouin village within Lebanon's Bekaa Valley. It tells the story of a community's search for Gamra, a young woman accused of arson after her love interest married another.
Mayasi described the film as born from "fragments - gestures, faces, silences," aiming to capture a world where reality and myth intertwine. The film is an international co-production from Belgium, Lebanon, Palestine, Qatar, and Saudi Arabia, with support from various film funds and organizations. Salaud Morisset is handling world sales for the striking debut.
