Scars Celebrate Survival in 'Calendar Girls' Play

Three women who have faced breast cancer are now boldly portraying the iconic 'Calendar Girls' on stage. Bernice Strickland, Kath Vineer, and Laura Pearson, all members of the Teylu Theatre Company in Cornwall, are participating in the production.
The play is inspired by a true story of Women's Institute members who posed nude for a calendar to fund a local hospital's cancer ward. These performances are raising money for the Plymouth Radiotherapy Development Fund at Derriford Hospital.
Each woman shared that the show resonated with their demographic and offered an empowering experience. They highlighted the importance of self-checks for breast cancer. Boost, a company that makes breast forms, has provided rehearsal space for the not-for-profit group.
The production is scheduled to be performed in various locations across Devon and Cornwall, including the Sterts Theatre on Bodmin Moor, Launceston Town Hall, Devonport Playhouse, and Tavistock Town Hall.
