In November 2025, 31-year-old Canadian composer Tony Ann is making waves in the music industry. Born in Beijing and later moving to Canada, Ann honed his skills at the prestigious Cleveland Institute of Music. However, his musical path took an unexpected turn when he dropped out at 18 to pursue his passion for pop music, film scoring, and songwriting at the renowned Berklee College of Music.
It was during his time at Berklee that Ann's big break came through a chain of emails to the team behind The Chainsmokers, a popular American electronic DJ and production duo. In 2016, he posted a cover of one of their hit songs on social media, prompting him to "cold-email the band's team." One reply later, Ann found himself on tour with The Chainsmokers, performing alongside them at sold-out arenas around the world.
While Ann gained fame through pop covers, including renditions of hits by Taylor Swift, Adele, and The Chainsmokers, he was always driven by a deeper, more personal mission to craft original music that felt more authentic to him. "There's something beautiful about creating music for yourself," he says. "Every note I play is truly mine, and I'm just grateful that I have an audience for it."
