Zimbabwean gospel musician Canaan Nyathi received the Africa Male Artist of the Year award at the Christian Legendary and Impact Makers Awards in Africa (CLIMA Africa) ceremony held in Lagos, Nigeria on October 9. This prestigious accolade has restored his hope and rekindled his passion for music, especially after a difficult period.
Nyathi described 2026 as an emotionally draining year, marked by rejection and dwindling belief in his musical career, pushing him to the brink of quitting. Encouraging words from a close Zimbabwean gospel minister helped him remain steadfast.
The CLIMA Africa award comes after a successful recording of his third live DVD, titled "God and a New Song," on October 3 in Johannesburg, South Africa. This 20-track project, recorded as part of his 40th birthday celebration, drew a large crowd under the theme "Building an Altar for Jesus."
