Nick Jonas shared the surprising story behind Joe Jonas securing the role of Shane Gray in Camp Rock. The audition tape was famously filmed on a low-quality Flip Cam in a hotel room during one of the Jonas Brothers' tours, with the brothers assisting Joe. The video quality was so poor that Disney executives initially thought it was a joke, leading to a reshoot.
Following Joe's successful audition, the Jonas Brothers' father brokered a deal with Disney. He insisted that Nick and Kevin also be cast as Joe's on-screen band, Connect 3, to keep the group together. This negotiation was crucial in shaping the popular Disney Channel movie and launching the band's acting careers alongside their music.
