This six-part production, based on her "Fjällbacka Murders" universe, is scheduled to commence filming on August 18 in Fjällbacka, Sweden. The series introduces a novel storyline focusing on Erica Falck's investigation into the disappearance of a childhood friend from over two decades prior.
For the first time, viewers will see Erica Falck as a teenager, delving into her past and family dynamics. The series aims for an "amber sky" tone, blending familiarity with an uncanny atmosphere, according to Läckberg. Director Liza Farzaneh intends to create a captivating mystery that keeps audiences curious, similar to "Big Little Lies" and "Sharp Objects." The narrative explores profound themes of guilt, memory, and the lasting impact of silence.
"Shadow of Guilt" has secured global distribution through Reinvent Yellow, with pre-existing deals in several European territories via the New8 pubcasters alliance. Läckberg expressed pride in her brand's ability to attract such significant support. The series is a testament to the growing international appetite for quality Nordic crime dramas.
Beyond "Shadow of Guilt," Läckberg is involved in several other international adaptations of her work, including a U.S. adaptation of "The Golden Cage." She continues to actively work on various TV and film projects, showcasing her prolific career in the crime genre. Her company, Creative Society, co-owned with Kristoffer Graci, has previously produced Netflix's "The Glass Dome."
