The beloved drama Call the Midwife has once again been honored with the Returning Drama award at the National Television Awards, marking their second consecutive win. This accolade arrives as the series concludes its 15th run, with creators already teasing future installments.
While details on series 16 remain scarce, fans can anticipate a Christmas prequel titled 'Call the Midwife: Sisters in Arms.' This three-part special will be set during the intense London Blitz of World War Two.
In addition to the prequel, a feature film is in development, set overseas in 1972. Neal Street Productions has confirmed that a new series, a film, a prequel, and two Christmas specials will precede the eventual sixteenth series.
The prequel will feature younger versions of characters like Sister Evangelina, Sister Monica Joan, and Sister Julienne, with original cast member Jenny Agutter narrating. Three new secular midwives, Sybil, Olive, and Marianne, will also join the cast. The special is set to air on BBC One and BBC iPlayer this Christmas.
