A new prequel series, 'Call The Midwife: Sisters In Arms', is set to explore the origins of Nonnatus House, the beloved convent from the original hit show.
The three-part Christmas special is set against the dramatic backdrop of 1939 and the Blitz during World War II. It will examine the profound impact of the conflict on the dedicated nurses, midwives, and nuns.
Acclaimed actors Julie Hesmondhalgh and Bally Gill are among the celebrity guest stars. Jenny Agutter will narrate as the older Sister Julienne, with Helena Wilson portraying her younger self. Helen Schlesinger and Amy Booth-Steel will also feature as younger versions of Sister Monica Joan and Sister Evangelina, respectively.
Showrunner Heidi Thomas expressed her excitement, calling the series "a joy to write" and highlighting its focus on courage, love, and survival during wartime.
