Buster Keaton's 1924 silent film, Sherlock Jr, is being presented with a modern twist, featuring music from REM's 1990s albums. This initiative, spearheaded by Josh Frank, aims to bridge the gap between classic cinema and contemporary music fans.
The Silents Synced project, which previously paired Nosferatu with Radiohead, now includes Sherlock Jr and the 22-minute short The Balloonatic. The latter is accompanied by a techno soundtrack from Amon Tobin. While the musical choices may not directly enhance the films, their purpose is to draw new audiences into experiencing these cinematic treasures.
