Experimental indie rock duo Buke and Gase will officially disband in April after a nearly 20-year run. The band plans to conclude their journey with two final concerts, one in Brooklyn and another in Hudson, New York.
Band member Arone Dyer announced the breakup, citing her pregnancy and a desire to focus on starting a family. She also expressed concerns about the financial viability of music creation, particularly the impact of streaming and the emergence of AI on artists' income.
Dyer and Aron Sanchez formed Buke and Gase in 2008. Their unique sound was partly derived from hybrid instruments they constructed themselves: the 'buke,' a modified ukulele, and the 'gase,' a guitar-bass composite.
Throughout their career, the duo embraced a do-it-yourself ethos. This approach was evident in their releases, including their debut album 'Riposte' and their most recent record, 'A Record Of,' released in 2021. Their discography includes five albums, four EPs, and a 2023 documentary.
