Kathryn Newton has paid a touching tribute to Sarah Michelle Gellar's iconic role as Buffy Summers in the upcoming sequel, Ready or Not 2: Here I Come. Newton recreated a specific look from Buffy's 1997 pilot episode, featuring a blue button-down top over a white tank and a messy updo.
Sarah Michelle Gellar, who is also set to appear in the new film, revealed she didn't know about Newton's homage until they were filming together. She noticed the striking resemblance of Newton's hairdo and outfit to her own character's debut look.
The original Buffy the Vampire Slayer series, a spin-off of the 1992 film, aired from 1997 to 2003. Gellar reprised her role in a Hulu continuation pilot. In Ready or Not 2: Here I Come, Newton plays Samara Weaving's estranged sister, Faith, who must face a new group of killers portrayed by Gellar and others. The film is set to premiere on March 20, following its debut at SXSW.
