Bryce Dallas Howard Fondly Recalls Costarring with the Late Robert Redford

In September 2022, the world lost a legendary actor and filmmaker with the passing of Robert Redford at the age of 89. Now, one of Redford's former costars, Bryce Dallas Howard, is sharing her cherished memories of working with the icon.

Howard, who played Redford's daughter in the 2016 Disney film Pete's Dragon, recalled their first meeting on set, describing how she "ran into his arms" for their very first take, nearly knocking him over. Redford, she said, "burst out laughing" and remarked that she had come at him "like a cannonball."

During their time filming together, Howard said she and Redford bonded over their shared love of nature, with the veteran actor sharing his passion for geology and the landscapes of New Zealand. Redford also told stories of driving across the United States as a child, a hobby he continued to enjoy.

Beyond their on-screen rapport, Howard revealed that Redford even rescued a mistreated horse while on location, earning him the playful nickname "I stole a horse!" from the actor.

Redford's longtime collaborator, director David Lowery, also paid tribute to the legendary performer, calling the opportunity to work with him on Pete's Dragon and The Old Man & the Gun "the privilege of a lifetime." Lowery fondly recalled filming bank robberies with Redford in their shared home state of Texas.
