- Event spans two days with moderated film discussions and a block party.

This fall, Brooklyn's BAM will host Playback: The Brooklyn Watch Party, a unique film event curated by and for New Yorkers. Co-host Spike Lee described the festival's aim as creating an atmosphere akin to watching movies at a friend's house, a departure from traditional industry-focused film festivals. Lee will personally screen his seminal film 'Crooklyn' to inaugurate the event.
Filmmaker Nicholas Ma and Clara Wu Tsai are organizing the festival. Curators for Playback include Questlove, John Turturro, and Bryan Stevenson. Each curator will select two films and participate in post-screening discussions. Their choices will span various genres, origins, and eras, taking attendees on a cinematic journey from Brooklyn to Mumbai, Ghana, and Algeria.
Notable film selections include Questlove's 'Soul to Soul' and 'The King of Comedy,' Stevenson's 'Salaam Bombay!' and 'City of God,' and Turturro's 'The Battle of Algiers' and 'Divorce Italian Style.' The festival is scheduled for November 6 and 7, culminating in a block party outside BAM on the final day.
