Snowstorm Halts Broadway, Affecting Box Office Gross
3 Mar
Summary
- Broadway grosses fell 17.5 percent due to snowstorm cancellations.
- Harry Potter and the Cursed Child topped weekly sales despite cancellations.
- Whitney Leavitt's run in Chicago draws crowds, selling out shows.

Recent snowstorms significantly impacted Broadway's financial performance, leading to a substantial decline in ticket sales and audience numbers. Six productions canceled performances on February 23rd alone, contributing to a 17.5 percent drop in grosses and an 8.4 percent fall in attendance.
This followed earlier cancellations on February 22nd, which caused a 14 percent slump in grosses the previous week. Despite the challenges, "Harry Potter and the Cursed Child" recorded the highest gross for the week, earning $2.16 million. "Hamilton" followed with $1.8 million.
Individually, "Every Brilliant Thing," starring Daniel Radcliffe, showed resilience, grossing nearly $1 million across seven performances. "Chicago," featuring Whitney Leavitt, maintained strong sales, pulling in $1.2 million and playing to 100 percent capacity at the Ambassador Theatre during its limited seven-performance week. Leavitt is scheduled to perform through April 5th.
