Triple Tony Award winner Evan McGill is spearheading "Broadway Bound: The Search For Broadway's Next Star," a new international television format designed to discover and launch aspiring musical theater performers. The competition will feature rigorous challenges in singing, dancing, and acting, evaluated by industry professionals. The ultimate prize for contestants is a lead role in a fully produced musical.
McGill conceived the format as a response to Broadway's post-pandemic struggles, aiming to cultivate a fresh generation of theatergoers globally. He is collaborating with Diamond Moving Pictures, a company co-founded by Bill Diamond, Sheri Rosenberg Kelton, and Randy Mendelsohn, to develop and produce the show.
The initial rollout is slated for the U.S., UK, Philippines, and Korea, with plans for each territory to produce its own version of the show. This strategy is designed to leverage Diamond Moving Pictures' IP ownership and territory licensing model, aiming for scalability and cultural relevance.
Diamond Moving Pictures CEO Sheri Rosenberg Kelton highlighted the format's potential to expand global audiences for theater, particularly by engaging younger, digitally native viewers. The project aligns with the company's vision of creating IP that connects with audiences and grows over time, offering a strong unscripted component to their slate.
