14 Nov
Summary
- Mummy franchise returning with sequel in development
- Brendan Fraser and Rachel Weisz set to reprise their roles
- New directors Matt Bettinelli-Olpin and Tyler Gillett attached

In November 2025, it was reported that the beloved Mummy franchise is making a comeback, with Brendan Fraser and Rachel Weisz set to reunite on the big screen. The two actors, who starred in the original 1999 film and its 2001 sequel, will reprise their roles as Rick O'Connell and Evelyn Carnahan, respectively.
The upcoming Mummy sequel, which is still in the early stages of development, is expected to disregard the events of the 2008 film, The Mummy: Tomb of the Dragon Emperor. While details about the plot and other cast members are still under wraps, it's likely that the story will continue the adventures of the O'Connell family, with the possibility of fan-favorite characters like Jonathan Carnahan and Imhotep making a return.
The creative team behind the new Mummy movie includes directors Matt Bettinelli-Olpin and Tyler Gillett, known collectively as Radio Silence. This marks a departure from the previous installments, which were directed by Stephen Sommers and Rob Cohen.
Given the current production timeline, it's unlikely that the Mummy sequel will hit theaters before 2027. However, fans of the franchise can look forward to revisiting the original films in the meantime, as they prepare for the long-awaited return of this beloved adventure series.
