- Her parents' advice emphasized hard work and self-worth.

Brenda Blethyn, celebrated for her extensive TV and film career, has candidly revealed her lifelong struggle with imposter syndrome.
Despite achieving significant recognition, including a Golden Globe, BAFTA, and two Oscar nominations, Blethyn stated that this feeling is lessening as she navigates the "second act" of her life.
She shared this at the launch event for Channel 4's new adaptation of Barbara Taylor Bradford's novel, 'A Woman of Substance.' Blethyn plays the older version of the protagonist, Emma Harte.
This new eight-part series is a modern take on the 1985 adaptation of the same novel. The story follows Emma Harte, an impoverished maid in 20th-century Yorkshire who rises to become the world's richest woman.
Blethyn connects with Emma's journey, drawing parallels to her own working-class background. She recalled her parents' advice: "You're as good as anybody else, and if you work hard, you can achieve it."
