The penultimate episode of "The Boys" Season 5 delivered a devastating blow with the death of a main character. Frenchie (Tomer Capone) made a final, heroic stand against Homelander (Antony Starr) to protect Kimiko (Karen Fukuhara). Despite their shared dreams of a future family, Frenchie succumbed to his wounds after confronting Homelander at their hideout and activating a radiation trap, leaving Kimiko heartbroken.
Earlier in the episode, Homelander asserted his absolute power by assassinating the president, dissolving Congress, and severing church and state ties. He also disbanded the Seven, leading Soldier Boy to attempt to flee the country before Homelander subdued him. The Boys, tipped off by "Gen V" heroes Marie Moreau and Jordan Li, were investigating Vought Studios' pro-Homelander propaganda. Hughie and Butcher narrowly escaped a shapeshifter disguised as Joe Kessler.
Actor Tomer Capone reflected on the emotional impact of Frenchie's death scene, noting the camaraderie on set and the bittersweet nature of concluding his character's arc. He revealed that showrunner Eric Kripke had informed him of the decision, acknowledging the character's planned ending from the comic source material. Capone emphasized the importance of Frenchie and Kimiko's relationship, highlighting their journey of finding love and redemption.
