Border 2 Casting: Script Dictates, Not Stars
26 Jan
Summary
- Director Anurag Singh explains that casting is script-driven, not star-driven.
- Sunny Deol and J.P. Dutta's ownership of the 'Border' franchise was key.
- 'Border 2' starring Varun Dhawan and others released January 23rd.

Director Anurag Singh has shed light on why veteran actors Jackie Shroff and Tabu were not cast in the recent film 'Border 2', despite their significant roles in the original.
Singh explained to IANS that casting choices are dictated by the narrative's needs. "The casting takes place through the story," he stated, highlighting that a filmmaker develops a script first and then identifies actors who best fit the characters. Sometimes, an actor's suitability becomes apparent during the writing process.
He further elaborated on the significance of Sunny Deol's involvement, noting that the 'Border' franchise is closely associated with both Deol and filmmaker J.P. Dutta. "If you are making Border, then you need Sunny Sir for sure because people identify this name with Sunny sir," Singh commented.
