Bonnie Tyler, the renowned Welsh pop singer, is no longer in an induced coma. She is currently in intensive care in a hospital near her home in Faro, Portugal, and remains very unwell.
The 75-year-old artist underwent emergency intestinal surgery in May. Doctors placed her in a medically induced coma to aid her recovery. A recent statement confirmed her condition is slowly improving.
While her medical team is confident in her eventual recovery, it is acknowledged that the process will take considerable time. As a result, all of Bonnie Tyler's scheduled shows for the summer have been cancelled or postponed.
There is still hope that some performances planned for the autumn might proceed as scheduled. The singer's family has actively countered "lurid and untrue rumours" about her health, thanking fans for their global outpouring of support.
Tyler, born Gaynor Hopkins, achieved international fame in the 1980s with hits like "Total Eclipse of the Heart" and "Holding Out For a Hero." She represented the UK in the 2013 Eurovision Song Contest and was made an MBE in 2023.
