The 22nd Marrakech Film Festival commenced on Friday with Bong Joon Ho, the acclaimed Korean director, presiding over the jury. During the opening night ceremony, Bong reflected on his formative years as a cinema student, recalling a period of consuming multiple films daily and questioning cinematic choices.
He noted the festival's 22nd year coincided with his own reflection on being 22, a time brimming with passion for filmmaking. Bong, the festival's first Asian jury president, highlighted Korea's past successes at the event, with two Golden Star Awards previously secured.
The festival, running until December 6, features a diverse jury and will judge 14 films competing for the top prize. Veteran Egyptian actor Hussein Fahmi was also honored with a career achievement award at the event.
