David E. Kelley is bringing Tom Wolfe's classic 1987 novel, 'The Bonfire of the Vanities,' to Apple TV in a new series adaptation. Acclaimed director Matt Reeves is set to helm the project, with both serving as executive producers.
This undertaking represents Kelley's second venture into adapting Wolfe's work, having previously adapted 'A Man in Full' for Netflix. 'The Bonfire of the Vanities' dissects the ostentatious culture of 1980s Wall Street and the prevailing media and political dynamics in New York.
The narrative follows the intertwined fates of a bond trader embroiled in a hit-and-run incident, a jaded tabloid journalist covering the sensational case, and the ambitious assistant district attorney prosecuting it.
This adaptation follows a previous, largely unsuccessful feature film version from 1990. The new series will be Kelley's third for Apple TV, joining 'Presumed Innocent' and the forthcoming 'Margo's Got Money Troubles.'
