A distinctive prototype speedboat, known as the Scubacraft SC3 and recognized from its appearance in the James Bond film Spectre, has achieved a sale price of £51,200 at auction. This unique submersible craft was present on set at Pinewood Studios during the filming of scenes for the 2015 movie. Its sale was part of a broader espionage-themed auction conducted by Bonhams.
The Scubacraft SC3 was initially conceived in the late 2000s for potential use by naval forces, but ultimately, only a single prototype was built. Despite initial governmental interest, the craft found its way into the background of the James Bond production after the team discovered it online in 2015.
This sale highlights the enduring appeal of James Bond memorabilia, alongside historical artifacts. The auction also featured other significant items, including a German World War Two enigma machine, which significantly surpassed expectations by selling for £203,600. Other notable sales included a collection of Ian Fleming's complete works and D-Day intelligence manuals.
