As the release date of two highly anticipated Bollywood films, Kantara: A Legend - Chapter 1 and Sunny Sanskari Ki Tulsi Kumari, approaches, their distributors are engaged in a fierce battle for screen showcasing.
According to the latest reports, the distributors of Kantara: A Legend - Chapter 1, AA Films, have demanded 100% showcasing in single-screen, two-screen, and three-screen multiplexes. This move has shocked the industry, as it is seen as an attempt to ensure that Sunny Sanskari Ki Tulsi Kumari, starring Varun Dhawan, does not get sufficient shows on the same release date.
In response, the distribution team of Dharma Productions, the producers and distributors of Sunny Sanskari Ki Tulsi Kumari, have sent their own list of requirements to exhibitors across the country. They have asked for a minimum of one screen in two-screen theaters, accounting for 50% showcasing. The same demand has been made for three-screen multiplexes, and even in four-screen theaters, they have requested one screen for all shows.
Industry sources have called Dharma's demands "fair," as they are aware that Kantara: A Legend - Chapter 1 is a bigger and more expensive film. However, they are also making it clear that their product is worth showcasing and are asking for reasonable screen allocation.
The negotiations between the two parties are ongoing, and it remains to be seen if AA Films will soften its stand and allow Sunny Sanskari Ki Tulsi Kumari to get the desired showcasing. The trade experts believe that the final decision might come down to the wire, just a day before the release, leading to potential headaches for the distributors and the exhibition community.
