The third annual Music Sustainability Summit in Los Angeles recently presented the inaugural Bobby Weir Sustainability Awards. Named for the late Grateful Dead co-founder, these awards recognize individuals and organizations significantly advancing sustainability in the music sector. Leaders noted Bobby Weir's understanding of music's connection to community and his view of touring as a responsible ecosystem.
The first award celebrated Manchester UK's Co-op Live venue for its state-of-the-art sustainable practices. The venue operates on clean electricity, employs a zero-waste model, and has eliminated single-use plastics. It also promotes eco-friendly travel and dining, contributing significantly to its local community.
Industry advocacy group REVERB received the second award for its extensive work in greening live music tours since 2004. REVERB has mobilized millions of fans and partnered with numerous major artists, preventing millions of plastic bottles from use.
Maggie Baird, founder of Support + Feed and mother of Billie Eilish and FINNEAS, was honored with the final award for her tireless advocacy for climate-positive practices. Baird leveraged her family's platform to promote plant-based solutions and reshape sustainability across global tours.
