BMG has entered into an agreement to acquire the publishing catalog and sound recordings of the influential 1980s British band, A Flock of Seagulls. Announced on March 12, 2026, this deal grants BMG control over the band's publishing rights in the United States and a share in global publishing income.
The independent music company also gains worldwide ownership of the sound recordings for A Flock of Seagulls' classic studio albums: 'A Flock of Seagulls' (1982), 'Listen' (1983), 'The Story of a Young Heart' (1984), and 'Dream Come True' (1986).
Frontman Mike Score stated, "We chose to partner with BMG because we believe in its vision to elevate and extend our music to new audiences and generation." He added, "We are gratified by their passion and commitment to our music and legacy."
Formed in Liverpool in 1979, A Flock of Seagulls rose to mainstream fame with their 1982 hit, "I Ran (So Far Away)." While not topping charts in their home country, the song reached the top 10 on the Billboard Hot 100 in the United States, becoming one of their four hits on the US chart.
The band's unique style and distinctive visual identity, particularly frontman Mike Score's hairstyle, made them torchbearers for the New Wave movement and a notable act of the second "British Invasion." Their music and image continue to resonate in pop culture, with their songs like "Space Age Love Song" being recognized as a standout track of 1983.
