Byron Bay Bluesfest Canceled Weeks Before Start
13 Mar
Summary
- Bluesfest in Byron Bay cancelled just weeks before April 2nd start.
- Poor ticket sales cited as the reason for the festival's cancellation.
- The event was set to feature Split Enz, The Black Crowes, and Earth, Wind & Fire.

The renowned Bluesfest in Byron Bay has been cancelled mere weeks before its scheduled April 2nd opening. Reports indicate that insufficient ticket sales are the primary cause for the festival's demise. This year's lineup was highly anticipated, boasting a reunion performance from iconic New Zealand rockers Split Enz, their first Australian show in two decades. Other notable acts included The Black Crowes and Earth, Wind & Fire.
This cancellation signals the end of an era for one of Australia's most celebrated music festivals, which began in 1990. Organizers had previously announced that the 2025 edition would be its 'final curtain call' after 35 years. However, the event's return was later discussed for 2026. Festival director Peter Noble OAM cited increasing costs, changing ticket-buying behaviors, and previous pandemic and weather-related disruptions as ongoing challenges.
