A live-action film adaptation of the popular soccer manga "Blue Lock" is scheduled for theatrical release in Japan on August 7, aiming to capitalize on the Soccer World Cup atmosphere. The narrative centers on a clandestine training program established by the Japan Football Union, where 300 high school soccer hopefuls battle to become the world's greatest striker.
Only one player will emerge victorious from this intense competition; elimination means being permanently barred from Japan's National Team. The film's protagonist is Yoichi Isagi, an unknown player navigating this cutthroat environment against 299 rivals. The "Blue Lock" franchise has achieved significant global success, with its manga selling over 50 million copies across 24 languages.
Further expanding its reach, "Blue Lock" previously inspired an anime series on Crunchyroll and a theatrical anime feature titled "Blue Lock: Episode Nagi." The live-action production is a collaboration between Kodansha and Credeus, with former Japanese national team player Daisuke Matsui serving as soccer supervisor. The Japan Football Association and J.League are offering their full support for the project.
