Summary
- Spinoff was a pitch to fill 'Blue Bloods' void.
- Original idea involved LA cop seeking estranged son.
- CBS suggested making LA cop Danny Reagan.

The police procedural 'Boston Blue,' a successor to 'Blue Bloods,' originated from a pitch aimed at filling the void left by the parent show. Co-showrunners Brandon Sonnier and Brandon Margolis approached CBS with an idea for a series focusing on a Los Angeles law enforcement officer who moves to Boston.
This officer's intention was to reunite with his estranged son, who was also serving on the Boston police force. However, CBS proposed a pivotal alteration to this concept.
The network suggested to Jerry Bruckheimer Television and the showrunners that the Los Angeles cop could instead be Danny Reagan. This creative pivot was readily embraced by the showrunners, leading to the development of the 'Blue Bloods' universe in a new direction.
