Garret Dillahunt and Michelle Hurd are set to star in the forthcoming psychological thriller "Bloodwood." This film represents Robert Menzies' feature directorial debut, based on his original screenplay. Essential Film Group is managing worldwide sales for the production.
The narrative centers on Jake, portrayed by Dillahunt, who is on the run from his past. He travels to the Amazon in pursuit of Vargas, played by Henry Ian Cusick, the individual responsible for his wife's demise. This mission escalates into a disorienting journey alongside Ryan, a reserved wildlife veterinarian with her own hidden history.
As Jake ventures deeper into the jungle, his perception of memory and time becomes fractured. He is drawn into a surreal confrontation with his past decisions and the woman he left behind. The cast also includes Johnny Sanchez, Hada Vanessa Hutchinson, and Joseph Jaquinto.
"Bloodwood" has received support from the Ayahuasca Foundation and Camino Verde. Its development involved guidance from Shipibo traditions, stressing cultural authenticity and respect. Menzies, who previously produced directorial debuts for Osgood Perkins and Jon Watts, aims for "Bloodwood" to be a modern "Heart of Darkness."
