Summary
- "Call Me" topped US and UK charts 46 years ago.
- Stevie Nicks was Giorgio Moroder's first vocal choice.
- Debbie Harry penned lyrics in mere hours for the hit.

Forty-six years ago, in 1980, Blondie's "Call Me" reigned supreme atop the Billboard Hot 100 and UK Singles charts. This dance-rock new wave anthem spent six weeks at number one in the US and three weeks at the top in the UK.
Interestingly, "Call Me" was almost a completely different song. Giorgio Moroder originally composed the track for the 1980 film American Gigolo and initially wanted Stevie Nicks to perform it. However, Nicks was unable to due to a restrictive record deal.
Moroder then approached Blondie's frontwoman, Debbie Harry. Presented with the instrumental track, then titled "Man Machine," Harry swiftly penned the lyrics within hours. Her collaboration with Moroder resulted in the enduring hit we know today.
"Call Me" has since achieved Gold certification in the US and Platinum in the UK, extending its legacy far beyond its cinematic origins.
