Filmmaker Bassam Tariq, director of "Your Mother Your Mother Your Mother," has spoken out in defense of Marvel Studios president Kevin Feige regarding the troubled "Blade" reboot. Tariq, who was attached to direct the project before departing in 2022, emphasized that Feige is a "good dude" and that the film's difficulties were not solely his responsibility. The "Blade" reboot, announced with Mahershala Ali in 2019, encountered significant development hurdles. These included multiple director changes, shifting release dates, and attached talent. The project ultimately failed to materialize.
Despite the "Blade" reboot's cancellation, Tariq highlighted the immense undertaking of reimagining a beloved character, especially when aiming to rival the iconic Wesley Snipes' original trilogy. He suggested that Feige's immense workload contributed to the situation. In a surprising turn, Wesley Snipes, who famously portrayed Blade from 1998 to 2004, made a cameo as the character in the 2026 film "Deadpool & Wolverine," preceding Mahershala Ali's unproduced feature. Ali himself has been candid about the project's failure, with Feige reportedly calling it the "biggest failure of his career."
