In its twentieth year, India's "Bigg Boss " reality show has achieved unprecedented viewership milestones. The current season, available on JioHotstar, surpassed 1 billion hours of watch-time in under 60 days. This digital success is complemented by a dramatic increase in audience participation, with 3.5 billion votes cast, a 71% rise from the previous season, and a 48% increase in the number of voters.
These record-breaking figures mark the fastest attainment of these benchmarks in the show's two-decade history on Indian television. Beyond India, where major cities like Delhi and Mumbai lead viewership, the Hindi-language version is proving popular internationally. It ranks among the top five titles on JioHotstar in the UK and Canada, and is the leading show on Starzplay in the UAE.
The show's host, Salman Khan, expressed his gratitude, stating the milestone reflects viewers' deep connection with the program. Alok Jain, Head of Entertainment at JioStar, noted that over an hour of "Bigg Boss " has been streamed digitally for every person in the Hindi-speaking market, with much of the season still to air.
Deepak Dhar, overseeing production by Banijay Asia's Endemol Shine India, emphasized how " Bigg Boss " has redefined unscripted content in India, motivating further innovation for future seasons. The show, based on Banijay Entertainment's global " Big Brother " format, continues to resonate across diverse audiences, from major metropolitan areas to rural villages.
