Summary
- Two siblings are drawn into a criminal underworld after shoplifting a necklace.
- The series features a chaotic depiction of family, ambition, and siblinghood.
- Despite a strong cast, the convoluted plot detracts from sharp comedic moments.
Netflix's "Big Mistakes" offers a chaotic crime comedy centered on siblings Nicky and Morgan, who become entangled in a world of crime after a seemingly minor shoplifting incident. The series, created by Dan Levy and Rachel Sennott, delves into themes of family, ambition, and the courage to defy norms.
Nicky, a pastor, and Morgan, a teacher, find themselves indebted to a Russian gangster after Morgan steals a necklace. This propels them into increasingly outlandish situations, testing their relationship and Nicky's secret life. The narrative takes a particularly absurd turn when they travel to Miami, requiring a significant suspension of disbelief.
Despite its convoluted plot, the show shines through its impeccable cast, especially Laurie Metcalf as the overbearing mother. Dan Levy and Taylor Ortega capture a believable, albeit obnoxious, sibling bond. The series' zany characters and witty dialogue provide moments of genuine joy and capture the complex thrills and horrors of siblinghood.
