Assam is set to preserve the cultural legacy of its beloved artist Bhupen Hazarika, a century after his birth. The state's Chief Minister announced that the year-long birth centenary celebrations will conclude in New Delhi on November 29.
Significant initiatives are being undertaken, including the foundation stone laid for a Rs 35.37 crore museum at Srimanta Sankaradeva Kalakshetra, expected to be completed within two years. Efforts are also in motion to secure Hazarika's Kolkata flat for cultural and commemorative purposes. The government plans to redevelop the Bhupen Hazarika Samanway Tirtha, incorporating a performing arts centre for research.
Further plans include establishing a national theatre named after Hazarika and creating an academic chair in his honor at Banaras Hindu University. To engage younger generations, an "Instareel" competition has been announced, encouraging original video submissions with cash prizes for winners.
