On September 24th, 2025, Kanu Priya, a professor in the Department of History of Art at Banaras Hindu University (BHU), was conferred with the prestigious National Award at the 64th National Exhibition of Art and the 71st Foundation Day celebrations of the Lalit Kala Akademi in New Delhi. The event, organized by the Lalit Kala Akademi under the Ministry of Culture, recognized Kanu Priya's exceptional multimedia artwork titled "Brink of Annihilation."
The award, presented by President Droupadi Murmu, comes with a cash prize of Rs 2,00,000, a certificate, and a memento. This is the second national accolade for Kanu Priya, who previously received the Rashtriya Kalidas Samman in 2020 from the Kalidas Academy in Ujjain.
Expressing her gratitude, Kanu Priya stated, "As a teacher, I strive to blend my work as an artist with my academic responsibilities, thereby enriching the teaching of Art History with a practical perspective. I am truly grateful to the university for its support and encouragement." BHU Vice-Chancellor Prof. Ajit Kumar Chaturvedi congratulated Kanu Priya on this remarkable achievement.
