The family has expressed a wish to lay him to rest in the land of his birth. Bharathiraja's body will be available for public and film fraternity respects at his Chennai residence until 9 pm on Wednesday.
An overnight journey will transport his body to his hometown region in Tamil Nadu. The final ceremonies are scheduled to take place at his Kaatrodu farmhouse near Vathalagundu, Theni district, on Thursday morning, with burial at 3 pm.
Bharathiraja, revered for his significant contributions to Indian cinema, battled respiratory and age-related health issues. His career, spanning over five decades, produced more than 40 films, leaving an indelible mark on Tamil cinema with narratives centered on rural life and human relationships.
