Saiju Kurup's film 'Bharathanatyam 2: Mohiniyattam' has found renewed interest following its Over-The-Top release, marking a significant genre shift from its predecessor.
Unlike the first installment's focus on family humor, the sequel delves into a suspenseful crime thriller narrative, blending elements of suspense, crime, and black comedy. Directed by Krishnadas Murali, the story takes a dark turn when Govindan, played by Suraj Venjaramoodu, appears to demand a hefty sum related to a fraudulent temple scheme.
An accidental confrontation leads to Govindan's death at the hands of Saraswati. What follows is a tense, albeit quirky, cover-up orchestrated by Saiju Kurup's character, Sasidharan Nair, and his relatives.
Their elaborate plan involves disposing of the body with assistance and fabricating a story of disappearance. The shocking conclusion sees the victim's ashes surreptitiously mixed with those of their deceased relative, leaving the family in disbelief.
