Callard explained that her lymph nodes are like a staircase for cancer spread. Although the cancer is in the first of three removed nodes, it is small and has not spread to the others. She is now waiting for results from tests sent to America to determine the cancer's aggressiveness.
Depending on these results, Callard will either undergo chemotherapy followed by radiotherapy if the cancer is aggressive, or just radiotherapy as originally planned if it is not. She expressed her mixed feelings about the news, pleased the surgery was successful but concerned about the ongoing waiting period.
