The Bengali television drama Kamala Nibas recently ignited a storm of controversy online due to a highly unusual scene. In an episode aired on Zee Bangla, the show's male protagonist was depicted eating a cockroach, a moment that quickly garnered widespread attention and strong reactions from viewers.
This specific sequence has drawn striking parallels to a memorable scene from the 2011 Hindi serial Dil Se Di Dua... Saubhagyavati Bhava. In that earlier instance, the character Viraj Dobriyal, played by Karanvir Bohra, famously drank milk containing a cockroach, a clip that resurfaced and went viral in 2021.
The Kamala Nibas episode features the newlywed groom catching a cockroach that bit his wife, then dipping it in milk and consuming it. This act left his on-screen wife in shock and bewildered viewers questioning the artistic intent behind such a dramatic display.
Social media platforms buzzed with comments ranging from humorous comparisons to expressions of disbelief and criticism. Many viewers felt the scene was gratuitous, designed purely for shock value rather than narrative progression, leading to a debate about the current trends in television programming.
