Veteran Bengali Actor Kalyan Chatterjee Dies at 81

Veteran Bengali actor Kalyan Chatterjee has passed away at the age of 81. He was undergoing treatment for typhoid and age-related complications at a government hospital, where he succumbed to his illness late Sunday night. His death was announced by the West Bengal Motion Picture Artists Forum, which expressed deep shock.

Chatterjee's career spanned several decades, during which he appeared in more than 400 films, often in supporting roles. He made his acting debut in 1968 with the film 'Aponjon'. His notable works include 'Dhanyee Meye,' 'Dui Prithibi,' 'Sabuj Dwiper Raja,' and 'Baishe Srabon.'

Beyond Bengali cinema, Chatterjee also lent his talents to Hindi films, notably appearing in Sujoy Ghosh's critically acclaimed 'Kahaani.' His education at the prestigious Pune Film Institute contributed to his versatile performances. He is remembered alongside contemporaries like Soumitra Chatterjee and Sabitri Chattopadhyay.
